With Tabitha James Kraan Organics haircare now boasting the SOIL ASSOCIATION COSMOS  ORGANIC label and setting the standard for pure, organic beauty, you know when when you buy from us you’re buying a truly natural product and you always will be.

Unfortunately, there are still many brands out there jumping on the clean beauty band wagon without actually cutting out the ingredients that are so harmful to our health and wellbeing.

The Soil Association has stated that new research reveals people feel misled by some beauty labelling:

In a national independent survey we discovered that 76% of consumers feel misled by labelling like that on the beauty products opposite.

The new research, released as part of our Campaign For Clarity, also shows that 72% of people said they would lose trust in a beauty brand that made misleading claims about being organic.” – Soil Association

Whilst we’re deeply saddened by the fact that some big brands are deliberately misleading those trying to detoxify their beauty routine, we’re thrilled that this is now coming to light and people are beginning to realise that having the word ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ on the label does not make it so.

What can you do to ensure that the products you buy are safe?

The Soil Association’s ‘Campaign For Clarity’ is paving the way for a safer and more honest terrain in the beauty world, by putting together a comprehensive league table naming and shaming brands who have been found guilty of ‘greenwashing’: making misleading organic claims on their labels. This won’t cover all companies out there, but it’s certainly a great start in helping people choose the safer and truly organic option.

The best way to make sure that you’re choosing the best products for you and your family is to get clued up on the toxic ingredients that you need to avoid and always check the label! As the Soil Association so rightly points out “Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and what you put on it is likely to be absorbed into the bloodstream.”, so don’t be fooled into thinking that those chemical nasties won’t be affecting your inner workings – from your endocrine system to your histamine response and more.

“Unlike with organic food, which must adhere to strict EU standards, there are no legal standards for the use of the terms ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ on beauty products.

This means in practice that any brand or beauty product can be labelled as ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ even if it contains virtually no organic or natural ingredients.

This is wrong, and the brands using these potentially misleading labels, on products ranging from moisturising shampoos to sunscreens to night creams, need to #ComeCleanAboutBeauty.” – Soil Association

Just like the team here at Tabitha James Kraan Organics, the Soil Association is dedicated to cleaning up the beauty industry, one product at a time!

As part of the #ComeCleanAboutBeauty campaign, leading independent toxicologist Emeritus Professor Vyvyan Howard of the Centre for Molecular Bioscience at Ulster University reviewed the labels of just some of the products wrongfully claiming to be natural and organic and identified what is now known as ‘The Terrible Ten’:  “Ingredients which have been shown in wider use to cause problems such as allergies, hormone disruption, or harm to the development of unborn babies.”
