COP26 – In Conversation with Tabitha

There is no 'Plan B' because we don't have a 'Planet B'

A call for regulation of sustainability in the beauty industry

With COP26 approaching (Sun, 31 Oct 2021 – Fri, 12 Nov 2021), I thought it would be interesting to show you a bit of my ‘behind the scenes’ hands-on fight for sustainability to be regulated in the beauty industry, from a brand owner’s perspective.

I invite you, my haircare users, and ‘Journal of a Hair Geek” readers to participate in this critical discussion by directly messaging me on Instagram or commenting on my latest posts.

I am a member of the Advisory Committee to the Sustainable beauty coalition (@sustainablebeautycoalition) of the British Beauty Council. My role will involve being a part of the salon task force and supporting the broader work within the beauty industry.

BRITISH BEAUTY COUNCIL’S FOCUS PILLARS

Transparency & Accountability

Being clear with and activating consumers and others about what sustainability means

Standards & Certification

Establishing industry-wide standards that meet the scale of the challenge and ensuring only meaningful certifications are used

Innovation & Technology

Harnessing the industry’s excellence in innovation for good and exploring the role this can play in delivering the ambitions of the framework

Here’s some food for thought:

Imagine if everyone on the planet washed their hair one day less in a week? How much water and energy would be saved globally?

Sustainable Development Goals

For me at Tabitha James Kraan, – these particular SDG’s are what I am passionate about.

6 – Clean Water and Sanitation. My products are formulated to be 100% plastic-free on the inside, accompanied with only the highest quality organic certified ingredients – that relieve the stress of cleaning greywater. What goes down your plughole is not harmful to our oceans

12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – We all need to consume less – and that is what my brand encourages. As a brand we want you to use quality organic ingredients high performance.

14 – Life Below Water – My plastic-free formulations ensure that no harmful ingredients go down the plughole.

15 – Life on Land – My sustainable and recyclable packaging means less waste on the landfill – I encourage refills, reusing and recycling. Because we are a part of the land, my ingredients are non-invasive to your bodies natural rhythms and function.

Participate in the discussion by letting me know your thoughts, goals and how you will be watching, virtually attending and interacting with COP26 this year.
