Organic Beauty: Five Positive Hair Habits for 2018

It may be February, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to let you get away with ditching those new year’s resolutions just yet – we’re good like that. Start the year as you mean to go on, by making a promise to yourself to stick to an organic beauty routine with these five positive hair habits, guaranteed to make 2018 the year of beautiful, healthy locks.

Tabitha's tip for hair cleanser

Quit Over-Washing

Our pet peeve is over-washing hair – it’s got a lot to answer for! Most hair products out there strip the scalp and lengths of all oil, even the good stuff; huge amounts of lather claims to equate to ‘clean hair’ and daily washing is the standard. For us though, none of this is true.

It’s time to liberate your hair routine!

We love the natural sebum that the scalp produces and with our organic hair products we strive to encourage the perfect balance by re-training your hair and scalp; our cleanser does not create masses of foam because we know this is not necessary, in fact, the harsh detergents used to make that foam are hugely detrimental; and daily washing? Definitely not. Our entire range has been designed to help you go longer in-between washes to allow your scalp to do it’s thing, without constant irritation.

Tabitha’s tip is to meet your regular number of washes per week with our gentle, natural hair cleanser and then allow your hair to tell you when you can go longer. Prolonged use of Tabitha James Kraan Organics products will require less product as re-balancing occurs.

Go Natural

You’ve probably already realised that organic beauty is kind of our thing. We don’t do chemicals. We know the harm they cause to our bodies and our planet and so wherever possible, we steer well clear.

From our organic hair products to limiting or altering your hair dye use, make going natural with your haircare routine a must for 2018.

When it comes to hair dye, you might be wondering how you can go about that in a natural way. In our Stow-on-the-Wold salon we use the very best organic dyes available, but in our opinion these still aren’t safe enough to use without caution. Keeping dye off the scalp helps to avoid those harmful chemicals going straight into your body, so why not try highlights or Balayage this year instead?

Treat Your Scalp

Add a weekly oil treatment in to your organic beauty routine this year. Take a ‘before’ photo and then take a look when 2019 comes around to witness the incredible transformation that sticking to this good hair habit yields!

With our Scented Organic Hair Oil you’ll start seeing results after the first use. Just 1-2 pumps of this easily absorbed and divinely fragranced ‘youth dew’ will leave you with varnish, malleable locks full of lustre and bounce. Your scalp will reap the benefits too when applied with a gentle massaging motion to the roots. Expect correct moisture balance to follow, to help you meet that no over-washing resolution too.

Be Gentle

Your hair is delicate, so it is important to treat it with care. As part of your organic beauty routine, invest in a high quality boar bristle brush and brush gently from the tips up to avoid breakages. A silk turban might be one for your wish list too – great for keeping your hair contained in a soft and moisturising cocoon overnight to minimise static and roughing up those cuticles as you toss and turn.

Keep heat styling to a minimum and consider the temperature of your water when washing your hair too, as the heat here can have a similar damaging effect. Our organic haircare range is so gentle that it can be used for all the family and you won’t have to worry about moisture stripping, as even our Organic Hair Cleanser contains an injection of our award winning Scented Organic Hair Oil to deliver a fine layer with every wash for extra nourishment.

Switch It Up

Hair loss or hair thinning is a common complaint among men and women and if you have a tendency to wear your hair tied up in the same style every day, this could be a contributing factor. Avoid putting too much strain on your roots in one place by getting a little bit creative with your styles this year! Take a look at some of our favourite style ideas here. If you find yourself nearby, pop into our salon Style Bar for a nifty do.
