Our Self-Care Action Plan: Make 2018 the year of Self-Care for a Happier, Healthier You

Self-care is far from selfish: a common misconception. In fact, taking measures to include a bit of ‘me-time’ in your day to day can make all the difference to your life and in turn, the lives of those around you.

Experts suggest that self-care is something that often gets neglected, due to the thinking that making healthy and stress-reducing changes is just too tough, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Switching up just a few aspects of your day can have a huge impact of your overall wellbeing and rather than being a chore, it should be a joy, if you’re doing it right.

In reality, ignoring your own needs benefits no one. Taking a break from time to time or treating yourself to something that makes you happy, just because, has been proven to help prevent illness, improve relationships and even up your income! So this year, make a promise to look after yourself just a little bit better.

Make 2018 the year of self-care with our easy action plan…

Roam Wild, Roam Free

Last year as part of our WARRIOR-INNOCENCE-WILDERNESS campaign, we looked at how forest bathing can help to release your wilderness woman, as well as improve your health and wellbeing.

From being a potent and 100% natural (it doesn’t get much more natural than this!) immune booster to accelerating healing time and reducing anxiety, taking a walk in the great outdoors really does do you a world of good.

Find somewhere nearby where you’re surrounded by nature and take time to go for a quick stroll, every day if you can. If doesn’t have to be long – just 20 minutes is enough to decrease your blood pressure and the stress hormone cortisol.

Breathe in…Breathe Out…

Breathing is good, breathing deeply is better and breathing with the aid of aromatherapy scents to suit your needs just tops it all off.

Any practice that gets you breathing deeply and calmly in through your nose and out through your mouth (meditation, breath coaching, yoga and sleeping for example) will help you to relax and a helping hand from stress-relieving essential oils makes it all the better.

Luckily for you, all Tabitha James Kraan Organics products are scented with our own, beautifully blended aromatherapy fragrances, designed to leave you feeling happy and calm.  Multiple studies have also suggested that a little retail therapy might be all you need to lift your spirits, so kill two birds with one stone and treat yourself to our Organic Scented Hair Oil for an indulgent overnight treatment or our Organic Hair Perfume for a pick-me-up throughout the day. Breathe deeply and smile!

Laugh Out Loud!

We all feel better after a good pant-wetting roar of laughter and there’s good reason for that:

  • Laughter diffuses anger: share a laugh, see the funny side and don’t sweat the small stuff

  • Laughter releases endorphins: promoting an overall sense of wellbeing and even relieving pain

  • Laughter boosts the immune system: by increasing antibodies and reducing stress hormones

  • Laughter relaxes the whole body: so much so that your muscles often remain tension free for up to 45 minutes after!

Eat Well

The really obvious self-care tip is to eat well, but just because it’s obvious doesn’t mean that it’s not vitally important. Getting a decent amount of fruit and vegetables in your diet and not overdoing the sugar goes a long way in making you feel a whole lot better and it really is the ultimate act of self-love.

Many people fall down at the idea of a ‘healthy diet’, imagining that healthy means boring. But healthy eating can be delicious! Try Buddha Bowls, smoothies, Avocado chocolate mousse and dates for starters.

Step away from your laptop, put down your phone and come back to the real world, just for a while. Being constantly online, as most of of are these days, means that your brain never gets down-time. You also rarely get the chance to be truly creative or just sit with your thoughts.

Carve out some deliberate screen-free time every day and you’ll soon starting feeling the difference. Try switching off an hour before bed to promote better sleep – another must for self-care.
